Believe it or not, your dreams can come true when you start making profitable dream pillows. It may take some time to get established with what kinds of pillows to make but this how-to guide will give you everything you will need to know to launch into the world of dream pillows.
What has made a dream pillow so, shall we say, dreamy is that it is not your average pillow. In fact, the best way to think about what a dream pillow really is is to think about a scented pillow.
Aromatherapy is the buzzword used in contemporary times to describe what certain scents will do for our mind, body, and soul. However, for many centuries before we gave it a name herbs were giving people pleasant dreams for a long, long time.
It has been scientifically proven that the brain responds to certain scents. For example, when you smell freshly baked bread or a freshly cut lawn or the neighbors barbecue your mind will be flooded with thoughts that product pleasant, happy memories. Dream pillows work in the same manner.
With this in mind, what kind of profitable dream pillows will you make and market? Clearly, there is a reason why they are called ‘dream’ pillows so obviously, they are intended to relax you as you drift off to sleep. You know, like that warm cup of milk does before you go to bed. This is the key target for the market you will want to sell your pillows to so the herbal blends you will want to focus on are those that promote relaxation.
Here’s a couple of ‘recipes’ to get you thinking:
Pleasant Dreams Blend – one cup mugwort, half cup rose petals, one-third cup chamomile, one-third cup lavender, one-third cup catnip and two tablespoons of mint. Blend all these ingredients together and use no more than two tablespoons per dream pillow.
Restful Sleep Blend – half cup lavender, half cup mugwort, and half cup sweet hops. Again, blend all ingredients and use just two tablespoons per pillow. Are you sensing a pattern here? A handful of herbal choices blended together and just a small amount of each gets used in each pillow. But how exactly do you construct the pillow part? Here’s where our how-to guide comes into play.
Building the Pillow
You will very likely have a lot of pieces of scrap fabric around. If you don’t, you can pick up unused pieces at fabric centers, yard sales, thrift stores and various other sources. All you need is to use a piece of fabric that has been washed and dried.
Regardless of the shape of the fabric scrap, you get to cut it into whatever shape you’d like. It can be fancy or simple with small squares or triangles the simple option when you are just starting out. Assuming you have already created your special sleep-inducing, dream-enhancing, relaxation-building herbal blend, be sure to keep it handy as you build the pillow that will hold it.
With the pair of small squares you have cut out of your fabric leftover, join the two right sides of the fabric together and stitch them together along three edges. Once you have finished that you should have something that resembles a pouch.
Flip the pillow out through the unsewn side to hide the seams created from the stitching. Fill the pouch end with your herbal blend and sew the final side of the square shut. If you would rather not sew the pillow pieces together you can use fabric pieces tied tightly with other pieces of fabric, string or yarn.
Your finished dream pillow is intended to be tucked inside a bedtime pillow or left to rest beside a bed pillow. The goal is to have the herbal blend close to the user’s head so that they can smell the scent.
