This current Lunar Eclipse holds potent energy for rebirth and transformation on many levels for us all…

Herbal Smudge Wand

You will need

Scissors

Garden shears

String

Fresh Herbs

Herbs used for today’s smudge wand: Lavender, Russian sage, purple sage, yarrow, rosemary. (scroll to the bottom of this post for the spiritual meanings and uses.)

Gather- Gather your herbs and flowers. Before you pick the flowers and herbs, keep in mind your intention from the last new moon. Or write a new one if you need to. You can even base the color of your string and herb choice off your intention. Using garden shears or sharp scissors, cut and gather your herbs.

Before cutting, ask the mother plant for permission and let her know what you plan to do with that branch. This will help remove any current living energy from the branch as well as help set and tune the intention of your smudge wand. Be sure to pick and prune at the right joints and nodules of the plant to promote future growth. Here is a good guide.

2. Arrange – Arrange your flowers into a small bouquet.

Lay the biggest and tallest plant matter down first to frame and add structure to your bouquet. Next, add a layer of medium length flowers. Then add the shorter flowers filling in any gaps. Move the faces of the flowers so they face outwards. You can always trim any leaves.

*It is a good idea to let the bouquet wilt in the sun for a few minutes to soften up the stems so they don’t snap when tying the wand.

Tie- Tie a knot at the bottom/base and wrap the string tightly around the bundle at a 45° angle until you get to the top, then repeat back down the bundle until you get back to the bottom. Secure with a knot at the bottom. Keep the string tight. Herbs lose a lot of their bulk when they dry out, so you may need to re-tie your smudge stick, or go over it again later.

You can leave a little loop so you can hang and dry your smudge stick.

Dry- Hang your fresh herb bundle by an open window until it is dry enough to burn. Mine was ready in only a day or so! Until then, enjoy the fragrance of the fresh herbs through your window!

(Your herbs will lose some size/bulk when it’s dry, so you might need to re-tie it.

Burn- Burn your wand with a container under it to catch any ashes that might fall. Never leave your herbal wand burning unattended! It’s best to stay mindful when working with fire and smoke.

Lavender – Used as an invitation for spirits. Lavender has long been used for cleansing. The Scent of lavender wards off evil spirits and safeguards one against evil.

Sage – Sage is a healing plant who’s smoke is used to bless, cleanse and heal. Sage is used to cleanse away the outside world and helps us enter a place of ritual or ceremony. There are many varieties of sage. Sage smoke is also antibacterial. It cleanses the air of negative debri on a physical and spiritual level.

Yarrow – Burned to enhance courage and strengthen psychic powers. Aids in divination and connection with spirits. Used to increase and enhance love. Burned for purification, cleansing and blessings. Encourages peace and balance. Yarrow helps eliminate toxins from the body during the Smudging process.

Rosemary- is known to to be soothing and encourages a sense of peace within you and your environment. Rosemary removes negative energy from spaces. Used to restore balance to create a healing environment.

FULL MOON IN CAPRICORN ~ TUESDAY, JULY 16, 2019 @ 2:38PM PST

And with this Full Thunder Moon following on the back of the partial lunar eclipse, we can expect some shakeup. Yet, I want to emphasize that I believe shake-ups during a Full Moon are times to let lose those parts of ourselves, or our lives, that we are ready to let go of. This is a double Lunar ~ a Full Moon and a Lunar Eclipse ~ a time of strong feminine energy where we connect with our emotions, with our bodies, and our intuition. It might even be time for re-birth.

How can you break out of the mold?

We also have Capricorns ruling planet, Saturn, in retrograde, in Capricorn, all of July. Look at areas of your life that need to be reworked.

Where are you holding resistance?

And this Full Moon is placed in the third house ~ the house where we connect with our intelligence and share it effectively so that we achieve our desired result. The words you speak and communicate are what is a part of your own nourishment.

What are you investing in?

Capricorn is a mountain climber and can teach that constancy bears fruit. A mountain is still, it is a place to create a still center amid changes. When we retreat to this place of stillness we can find a new perspective, one that helps us to create a firm foundation for new growth.

Thunder brings change, a spark of the new, shock or upheaval, It is the great awakener that can bring life to new growth. It sets things in motion, creates decisive action and inspires initiation

This is a time to come from a more feminine way of relating…of being open, loosening, and allowing space for new influences…

What must change?

When our outer world is shaken up, it is the best time to stay awake, to feel, to be aware of the quivers of the energy of change underway. Remember, you are only passing through this point in time for today, be true to yourself. In the moment of change, there is only truth, knowledge, understanding. Regrets vanish, along with the past to which they belong.

What do you bring with you into new situations?

“The truths you choose to nurture and cultivate in your life become the foundation of your personal ecosystem, they are your energy source for your creative action.”

What will this new place ask of you?

We place a lot of focus on the Full and New Moons, however, I believe the true work, the hardest work, is done in the space between them. The goat, as I know her, is a creature of true and gentle wildness. She offers you a strong faith, and the male goat, the buck, the opportunity for fertile ground to sink into.
Gemstones to work with under this Full Moon in Capricorn are smokey quartz, garnet, turquoise, lapis lazuli, agate, or onyx. Colors are earth tones or deep blues. Essential oils you may want to work with are Vetiver, to ease the need for overworking and to connect with your emotional needs; Rosemary & Cypress to support you in believing in yourself and see beyond any negativity.

This night, I call on you to move outside at the last light of the day. To catch the first stars that grace the sky and let them twinkle some love into your heart to work with under this strong, ground shaking Full Moon.

And don’t forget to put your Moon Water out tonight.
