Herbal Astrology

Our ancestors were deeply attuned to the phases of the Moon and the stations of the Sun. Farmers once farmed by the Moon; the idea was that the “waxing” or growing Moon pulled plant energies upward, while the “waning” or decreasing Moon meant energy was moving back down towards the Earth and soil. When you consider that plants are filled with water and that the Moon’s gravity is strong enough to pull the tides of the ocean, there is a strong logic to this practice.

The “waxing” phase, from the New Moon to the Full Moon was the time to plant leafy plants and plants from which aerial portions were to be harvested such as berries, stems, leaves, flowers and barks. The “waning” phase, from the Full Moon to the dark of the Moon, was the time to plant root crops and also a good time to transplant, weed, prune, and treat for pests.
It was said that slaughtering animals under the waxing Moon resulted in moister and more flavorful meat.

Woodcut under a waxing Moon would have more sap and thus would make a ship more seaworthy. Woodcut under the waning Moon would be drier and more suitable for bridge building, to make furniture, for house construction, and for firewood, because at the waning Moon the sap would sink and be concentrated in the tree’s roots.
Herbal astrology went far beyond the phases of the Moon, to encompass all the planets by incorporating both medicinal and spiritual lore.

Solar Herbs (Leo) were said to reflect the positive ego strength of the Sun, our largest heavenly neighbor and our closest star. Power of will and generosity would be fostered by these herbs.

The Venus/Mars Dance October 2017

Venus and Mars begin a new cycle in Virgo in October, symbolizing the eternal dance between feminine and masculine, receptive and assertive, light and dark, negative and positive, yin and yang.

These polarities are interdependent – neither can exist without the other – and they are equal in value.  At times various cultures may ascribe more value to one quality or another (for example, matriarchal cultures may value the peace-seeking qualities of Venus where warrior cultures will value the aggressive energy of Mars), but in their purest form, they are equal and balanced.

Finding a balance between two polarities is an important part of the astrological symbolism – the twelve zodiac signs consist of six pairs of opposites and each pair requires the other to balance and integrate.  The same is true of Venus and Mars.  Venus is receptive – it represents the force of magnetic attraction.  Under the influence of Venus, we attract lovers, money, and other good things, and we learn how to increase that power of attraction by the way in which we interact with the people and things around us.  Mars, however, goes after what it wants.  Mars is the principle of action and motivation, and when the principle of action is thwarted frustration results so Mars also traffics in anger and rage.

In relationships, Venus makes sacrifices for the sake of peace and harmony where Mars seeks personal gratification and the meeting of one’s own needs.  Both are equally important although we sometimes tend to value one over the other.

The conjunction, the meeting of the two planets, is the beginning of a new Venus/Mars cycle.  Like a New Moon, new planetary cycles offer a fresh beginning.  This is an opportunity to find a new balance in our relationships – to learn how to ask for what we need if we lean more towards the Venusian side, and to learn to compromise and empathize if we are more Martian in nature.

The current Venus/Mars cycle that begins this week will last through the next conjunction in August 2019.  During that time Venus will retrograde (appear to move backwards) between October 4, 2018, and November 16, 2018, offering an opportunity for a re-do in areas where our efforts to achieve balance have been less successful.

Mars and Venus are often expressed in our relationships with others, but they also are important in our relationship to ourselves.  Just as we strive to balance Mars and Venus in our outer lives, we need also to find that balance within as well.

Pluto is shining a laser beam right now that will continue throughout the months of September and October.  Pluto is the Lord of the Underworld of the Psyche, and when its influence is powerful as it is right now there is a tendency for the dark underbelly of the collective psyche to be revealed.

If like me Pluto is activating your personal chart, you are likely to experience a higher level of intensity and confrontation than usual as Pluto works to strip away our false selves to reveal the Truth that lies beneath over the next few months.

The other big piece of astrological news is the deconstruction and pressure for radical change that is the dance between Jupiter and Uranus.  Both of these planets seek change and liberation, but in this cycle, they are in a challenging aspect to each other which can be somewhat destabilizing as part of us yearns for change, yet change is occurring in a manner that is unexpected and perhaps undesired.

Under this influence, change can be uncomfortable for many of us.  It’s not unusual to be unhappy with an aspect of our lives yet be unwilling or afraid to create the upheaval required to make a change.  A planetary aspect like this can motivate and inspire us to let go a little bit and let that magic happen!

Welcome October: Astrology for October 2017

RUNE OF THE MONTH: Mannaz “the Self, community”. Knowing ourselves, our talents, our weaknesses, our potential is essential to establish solid connections. We each exist as a complete whole, but our relations to others are what define us. Community provides exchange, confrontation, growth and evolution. Let us be aware that our individual choices determine the fate of the whole of humanity.

Jupiter enters Scorpio on Tuesday 10/10 till November 9, 2018. This coming year could bring about great revelations with regard to organized religion, the role of the church, the true face of mass immigration and new metaphysical phenomena. We might witness major educational reforms, dramatic legal changes, as well as the rise of intolerance, spiritual dogmatism and political extremism. On the bright side, greater generosity of spirit and more compassion will also emerge. We shall gain a deeper understanding on how to create good situations in our lives, attract supportive people, as well as generate the abundance we need by using our thoughts and emotions in a more disciplined and positive way. Traveling to places having a profound spiritual significance to us personally as a result of past lives becomes more actual.

Uranus remains retrograde this whole month until January 2nd2018. Its shadow period will last until April 19, 2018. The degrees traveled this month (27º15’- 26º03’ Aries) are associated with the Sabian Symbols with the following images: “A large audience confronts the performer who disappointed its expectations” and “Through imagination, a lost opportunity is regained”. A month to stop waiting for other people or outer circumstances to change our reality. By taking full responsibility for our thoughts, our emotions and their consequences, we become truly independent individuals, masters of our own destiny. Time being circular and not linear, we can change our future, but also our past by living our present with more wisdom and consciousness.

Neptune remains retrograde this whole month. Its shadow period lasts until March 13, 2018. The degrees traveled this month (12º10’- 11º37’ Pisces) are represented by: “An ancient sword, used in many battles, is displayed in a museum” and “In the sanctuary of an occult brotherhood, newly initiated members are being examined and their character tested”. Enlightenment comes from a deep knowingness that we are all one and that hiding less desirable aspects of ourselves is futile. The pace of evolution is accelerating at a furious speed, making it more and more difficult to put on a mask. Destroying another means destroying ourselves. In order to raise our consciousness, we need to walk our talk with absolute integrity, in love and transparency. Our spiritual family is calling to us and we are likely to reconnect with long lost brothers and sisters for a task greater than ourselves.

September, Celtic Vine

Vine: “The Equalizer”

September 2 – September 29

Given the changing of seasons, the Druids believed that Vines’ personalities were just as fluid and changeable as the seasons. They can be unpredictable and contradictory to themselves as well as indecisive. However, this comes with its benefits, since they can easily see both sides of a story and don’t like to pick sides, making them very empathetic. Prone to mood swings, they can also be charming, elegant, and, despite their fluidity, often have distinctive tastes and prefer refinement. If you’re a Vine, you may prefer “finer things” like food, wine, music, and art.

The Celtic Tree Zodiac is an ancient wisdom tradition based upon the essential nature or qualities of different trees, as they are related to months of the year. The druidic priests based their understanding of trees upon on observation, and an intimacy with the natural world that is almost unimaginable today. By understanding that everything is alive, and has the right to exist as much as we do, the Celts were able to study how each tree has a particular energy that can ultimately be a profound alliance.

Think about trees for a moment. They are rooted in the earth and reaching toward the stars, connecting the light and density of matter. Their natural response to sunlight and changes of season are a model for ease in transformation. Trees are slow, and long lived, and have their own viewpoints, a kind of medicine that can teach us something important about how we might live in the world. Imagine you are sitting in an oak grove and then move to a pine forest.

You’ll find Oak has an energy unique to its own, just as Pine has its unique energy. Connecting personality qualities to times of the year is common in many cultures. Astrological traditions have been widely used for insight into particular challenges and gifts. What the druids did was to connect plants to these cycles. Instead of using gods and goddesses as the center of stories, the Celtic Zodiac used the mythology and stories of trees to help provide a new perspective.

September, called Muin by the Celts, is the time of the vine. The vine itself is like a green fuse, rising up from the Mother with intensity. Fast growing, prolific, intimately connected to whatever it touches; each type of vine has a certain energetic perspective. Poison ivy, for example, is not the same as a grape vine. Yet they both have in common a certain virility and fertility.

The vine was extremely important in ancient lore because of the grape. Wine has been made for thousands of years and it was considered a highly sacred substance to be used in a ritual context, as it still is today, in the Catholic mass. In ancient times, wine was tied to the theater, a transformational rite ruled by the god, Dionysus. Dionysus represents deep, chthonic (subterranean) transformation.

The Maenads, the women who worshipped him, would tear people apart. This dismembering represents spirit coming into the density of matter, the shedding of old patterns that reside in our bones, cells, and mind that hold us back from being who are in our divine beauty and power.

September is the time of the autumn equinox when light and darkness are in perfect balance. The vine represents the bounty of the harvest, which is also moving toward the completion of a yearly cycle. What we harvest was started in the dream time, the dark days of winter when the roots were easing through the cold dense earth. We experience first the green shoots of spring efforts, and then the explosive growth of summer.

The contemplation then becomes, what has been the fruit of your life over the past year? What have all your efforts yielded for you to taste and digest? It is a good time to find balance, just as the light is balancing on the equinox. The fruit of the vine may be bitter or sweet, or both. Do you have the courage to consider all of it, all as blessings? As the days grow shorter, we hope you can celebrate what you have gleaned over the past year. Savor the harvest of your life with gratitude and wonder at the mystery and miracle of the very breath that flows through you now.

Swan Celtic Zodiac Sign

Celtic Swan Zodiac Sign Dates: September 2 – September 29

The ever lovely swan whose eye for beauty knows no bounds. These are very noble people with specific tastes and passions. People sometimes feel off-put by the Swan because decorum comes first, spontaneous action last. Organization is Swan’s specialty as is an eye for detail. Swan’s color is pink and the “tree” is Vine.

People born under the sign of the Swan are honorable, polite and self-sacrificing. The Swan is passionate and discriminating, but always puts correctness first. Don’t expect a lot of impulsive behavior from Swan. They prefer to plan and check even minute details twice.

Swan people have many striking qualities that you’ll notice immediately. They have an impeccable sense of what’s “chic”. They also move with smooth, gliding strides that seem to make them float above the ground. One word that sums up Swan from an exterior standpoint is gracefulness. But what about below the surface? Is there more than meets the eye to our cordial Swan?

In short, the answer is yes. Swan has part of her body in the water. This represents not only emotions but the unseen world. Swan understands hidden possibilities and how to navigate unusual circumstances.

There is no question that Swan regulates her environment with a cool head. Nonetheless, your instincts know when proverbial weeds could tangle up all your plans. At this juncture, your backup plans come into play. A quick mind evaluates the problem and comes to a very logical and clear solution. All the while no one would know that you’ve even skipped a beat.

One of the Swan’s unique life gifts is knowing how to avoid drama. Making a spectacle isn’t in your nature, nor is participating in one. You like your life’s routine. That pattern keeps you grounded. Being trapped or shoved into chaos makes for a very squawky Swan.

The Swan’s living space is always pristine. You need to live with someone who appreciates order as much as you. Otherwise, a lot of tension ensues even to destroy a relationship. Swans want to take care of their family, and they do so with diligent caution. The problem becomes those people in your life who don’t handle being over-managed. Don’t look for problems where none exist. Celebrates life simple moments to keep yourself balanced.

In love, Swan seeks to mate for life. This makes the task of finding the right person typically a lengthy one. The ever-staid Swan exterior makes it difficult to become intimate. Once Swan makes that dive, it becomes even harder to leave even if they are not happy. It really ruffles Swans feathers to upset status quo.

Swan has a big place in their heart for lovely things. Art, the sweet face of a kitten, a stunning opera – all these resonate with your very soul. This means that Swan often goes out of their way to protect the things of beauty, things that you treasure. When Swan sees Mis justice, malice, destruction get out of their way. You are about to see a tirade from someone who rarely says “boo” loudly.

The other time Swan’s intensity comes out is in the bedroom. Here is where your passions erupt. Additionally, whenever you engage in a dream, you put a lot into that – its energy that comes all the way from your webbed feet to the top of your head. Because you keep so much inside, this release is healthy. Allow yourself to open up and go a little crazy once in a while. You’ll benefit from it as will those you love.

As far as careers go, you like a steady, reliable job where your precision, honesty and discrimination matters. Too many sudden changes or risks distract you. In other words, don’t go into investments! If you have a superior who is calm and collected it makes for a great working relationship and one that may lead to promotion quickly. The caution is looking at the new possibilities with your discerning eye to make certain its what you want and satisfy your needs and goals both mentally and emotionally.

Swan people are governed heavily by the element of air with a water subtext. Swan is as cool and collected as a light spring breeze. You like shooting for the clouds, just remember to put your foundations under those aspirations. Your ruling planet is Venus, which is where all that passion begins. The Celtic Zodiac paints you as respectful and affectionate and needs a partner who is likewise so.

September Astrology 2017

RUNE OF THE MONTH: Inguz “fertility, new beginnings”. A wonderful month to resume unresolved situations, clear the old and let go of the past so that we may start anew, grounded, centered, free from what no longer serves us. We are now in a position to create the life we truly desire with consciousness and mastery.

* * * * * * * * * * *

Mercury turns direct on Tuesday, September 5 at 4:30 AM at 28º30’ Leo. The shadow period (the time it takes for Mercury to return to its original position during which we still feel the effects of the retrogradation even if more mildly) lasts until September 19. The degree Mercury turns direct on is symbolized by: “A mermaid emerges from the ocean, ready for rebirth in human form”. During the past few weeks, we have had to re-evaluate what/whom we trusted, reassess our creativity, become clear in our love relationships and connect differently to our creations and our children. The time has now come to give birth to ourselves in a new form.

Uranus remains retrograde this whole month until January 2nd2018. Its shadow period will last until April 19, 2018. The degrees traveled this month (28º11’-27º17’ Aries) are associated with the Sabian Symbols with the following images: “The music of the spheres” and “A large disappointed audience”. As time goes, since the end of the Mayan Calendar that occurred on Dec 21, 2012, there is a larger and larger gap forming between those who have chosen ascension and those who haven’t. Those who have chosen the path of individuation and enlightenment are experiencing more and more synchronicities, magic, miracles and are able to see the beauty of this world, while those who did not answer or recognize the call, are finding themselves deeper and deeper in the midst of roller-coaster events threatening their safety, their joy, and their peace. Like the different wavelengths of a radio, these realities exist in parallel. We need to remember our capacity to choose the reality we truly want our lives to evolve in.

Neptune remains retrograde this whole month. Its shadow period lasts until March 13, 2018. The degree traveled this month (12º58’-12º11’ Pisces) is represented by: “A sword, used in many battles, in a museum”.  The most powerful weapon is not made of steel. It is love itself, wisdom, consciousness, awareness, compassion, and forgiveness. A month to remember that truth, and walk our talk with dignity, honor, and elegance in peace and harmony with all that is.

Pluto remains retrograde this whole month until September 28. Its shadow period continues until January 19, 2018. It turns direct at 16º51’ Capricorn. This degree is represented by “A girl surreptitiously bathing in the nude”. Standing in our power does not necessarily require calling attention to ourselves. The best protection in the face of adversity is often, to tell the truth, and be absolutely transparent. It is beautiful to shine the beauty of who we are, but it could also disturb some. In some cases, it may be wise to shield our light and wear our cloak of invisibility.

This month’s intentional meditation starts on Wednesday 9/6 with the Full Moon in Pisces. Make sure that at 0:03 AM, you have taken out as many blank sheets as you will have intentions to be charged by the rays of the Full Moon on a balcony, in a garden, or by a window. Once that moment has passed, put them away in a folder.

On Tuesday 9/19 on the New Moon in Virgo, take out your blank full moon charged papers and write on each a concise, positive intention. Place them on a balcony, in a garden or near a window so that they are out by exactly 10:30 PM. Once that moment has passed, staple them together and put them away in a folder expecting the manifestation of all your dreams…

Saturday 9/2: Mars Trine Uranus (5:13 AM)

We could feel somewhat restless and impatient today. A wonderful transit to seek activities that are stimulating to the mind and/or challenging to the body. New social contacts are exciting. Unusual or unexpected circumstances open new levels of freedom in our lives. Let us, however, exercise caution when operating a motor vehicle or using sharp objects.

Sunday 9/3: Mercury Conjunct Mars (2:39 AM)

Today, communications are witty, combative and direct. Best to stay away from situations that could potentially degenerate in battle. We should be careful while driving, as reactions could be impulsive. Our energy is best channeled in athletic activities and projects requiring initiative and dynamic energy.

Monday 9/4: Sun Opposition Neptune (10:28 PM)

A feeling of floating in vagueness could mark today’s energies. We could be somewhat dreamy, lack ambitions and a strong sense of purpose. We are more sensitive than usual to the plight of others. Our compassion could draw us to helping someone less fortunate than ourselves or taking care of an animal in need. A day otherwise best spent in serenity, reading an inspiring book, enjoying water or creating art.

Tuesday 9/5: Mars enters Virgo (2:35 AM till 10/23), Mercury turns direct (4:30 AM)

During the next 6 weeks, Virgo natives are favored. Actions are more selfless, detailed, and practical. A wonderful time to start a new exercise program and adopt a healthy diet. Regarding Mercury turning direct, kindly refer to the opening paragraph.

Saturday 9/9: Sun Trine Pluto (3:41 AM), Mercury enters Virgo (7:52 PM till 9/30)

A day to stand in our power. Our authority is more readily recognized by others than at any other time. Cooperation is thus easily achieved, bringing success to joint efforts. During the next 3 weeks, our minds are sharp, practical and detail oriented. We think selflessly and communicate with intelligence, seriousness and an attention to facts and figures.

Tuesday 9/12: Venus Trine Saturn (5:49 PM)

We face even boring social situations with grace, dignity, and patience. A wonderful day to visit an elderly person, attend a professional gathering or make a duty call. A good day to either end a romantic relationship that has been shaky for a while or commits to it with full awareness of its strengths and weaknesses. Great also for being very grounded in the use of our resources and solidifying our financial situation.

Wednesday 9/13: Sun Square Saturn (7:58 PM)

We could feel frustrated in our efforts. Someone may fail to honor an agreement. Obstacles could arise. Falls, bruises or the need for dental work might occur. A day requiring hard work and discipline. We are being tested in our resolve and need to respond to challenges and responsibilities with both dignity and efficiency.

Friday 9/15: Venus Sextile Jupiter (12:44 PM)

A wonderful day to attend an elegant or fun social event. Our happy disposition and cheerful tolerance open many doors, and if single, could bring an enriching romantic opportunity. As long as we remain moderate and grounded, a positive opportunity brings financial abundance.

Saturday 9/16: Mercury Conjunct Mars (12:01 PM)

Kindly refer to Sunday 9/3.

Sunday 9/17: Venus Trine Uranus (9:25 PM)

We are attracted to exciting people, new circumstances, unusual artistic activities. Our style could change. Our tastes are more modern with a touch of eccentricity. A love relationship begun today is stimulating but may end as quickly as it started. An existing romance could go through a surprising change. Finances fluctuate, bringing sudden, unexpected gains.

Tuesday 9/19: Venus enters Virgo (6:15 PM till 10/14), Mercury Opposition Neptune (8:50 PM)

During the next 3 weeks, we express our love in practical ways. We selflessly wish to help those in need, emotionally creating order where there was chaos. Today, more specifically, we are dreamy and unfocused. Not a good day to sign legally binding documents as we could miss some of the fine print. We could feel somewhat apathetic, may need to lay low, and are likely to be mentally more sensitive than usual to noise or bright lights. Excellent however for unusual artistic creativity that expands the limits of the possible. Water has a soothing effect on our thoughts and emotions.

Friday 9/22: Mercury Trine Pluto (10:59 AM), the Sun enters Libra (1:02 PM till 10/23)

Our authority is recognized. Our power and determination win the support of others to our ideas. We express our thoughts with a strength, an integrity and a courage that win the respect of those who can help us further our projects. Our words carry the depth and the magic to create new situations. During the next four weeks, we seek peace, balance, and harmony. We are drawn to fairness, moderation, and understanding both sides of a conflict. We want justice and walking in beauty feels attractive.

Sunday 9/24: Mars Opposition Neptune (12:50 PM)

People, circumstances, projects could feel somewhat surreal. We could easily drift in a dream, get caught in an illusion and be deceived by a misrepresented situation. Our motives should be transparent and our efforts focused on actively helping others in practical ways. Important to stay as grounded as possible.

Monday 9/25: Mercury Square Saturn (7:36 AM)

Today, we could feel quite drained, discouraged, unduly pessimistic and overly serious. Our opinions are best kept to ourselves and our energy

should be used in an absorbing task requiring keen attention to details. Not a good day to seek the support or recognition of others. Loneliness could prove heavier than ever. Essential to draw on self-sufficiency to complete the work at hand which seems more tedious than usual.

Wednesday 9/27: Jupiter Opposition Uranus (9:24 PM)

We could get involved in a task proving to be more than we can chew. A major turning point that could feel quite unstable. We are completing a book in our lives and starting a completely new one. Precipitation or impatience should be avoided at all costs. An old relationship could be severed, while a new one proves magnetic, exciting and stimulating. Not a good day to buy equipment, nor for a long distance trip that could be quite unusual and turn out to be totally different from what we expected. Today, things could change on a dime and not necessarily for the better.

Thursday 9/28: Pluto turns direct (12:33 PM)

Kindly refer to the opening paragraph.

Friday 9/29: Venus Opposition Neptune (5:12 PM), Mercury enters Libra (5:42 PM till 10/17)

A relationship too good to be true could just be so, strangely dissolving into nothingness. Confusion, deception, disappointment could occur. Financial matters are elusive. More than ever, it is important to stay away from getting rich quick schemes. During the next 3 weeks, our communications, the way we express ourselves and think are more balanced. We seek peace, tolerance, and beauty. Harmonious relationships are important topics of interest. Our esthetic tastes change.

Wishing you a wonderful month of September!

Following the Cycles of the Moon

Mother Moon. So radiant in the sky. Shining up the blackest night and heralding us into the dawn.

The Moon is one of the fastest moving celestial bodies in our solar system. It spends an average of 2.5 days in each sign of the zodiac and follows a 28-day cycle.

The cycles of the Moon are very similar to that of a female’s menstrual cycle, however, when in tune with their bodies, men will also feel the effects of Mother Moon as she radiates down in the night sky.

The tides of the ocean are also affected by the Moon, as is the salt water that arises within our own bodies.

It is in water that energy and emotions are stored, which is why on the night of the Full Moon we can feel our emotions stronger than most.

When the Moon is full, it often signifies completion or ending. Often we are able to fully express ourselves and know the direction forward from within our souls.

On the night of the New Moon, when the moon is dark and not yet visible, it is a time to go within. It is a time to plant the seeds that will flourish and bloom when the Moon is full again.

The New Moon is an opportunity for introspection and to go within. It is a time to delve inside yourself and to work out what you really wish to manifest for your life.

When you sync your energy up to the vibration of the Moon, not only will you feel more in tune with your emotions, but you will also be able to vibrate in harmony with your more intuitive side.

When the Moon is in one of the twelve constellations, it gives off a subtle change in energy and these energies can be used to help manifest and create the life of your dreams.

Making initiations, plans and setting goals for yourself when the Moon is in a favorable spot can be like tapping into your own secret source of magic.

The Moon is purely magical and when you learn to use her energies, you will be able to tap into the depths of your soul.

Here are the subtle vibrations that the Moon experiences as it travels through the 12 signs of the zodiac:

ARIES

When the Moon is in Aries it is an excellent time to start things and launch projects. Things tend to happen quickly when the Moon is in Aries, so definitely use this to your advantage when pursuing your goals. Anger can also rise when the Moon is here, especially if your Sun is also in a fire sign, so be aware of your thoughts and emotions and try to not say anything you will regret. If you do need to assert yourself or put your foot down, the Moon in Aries will definitely help you to build all the courage you need.

TAURUS

Be mindful over what you initiate when the Moon is in Taurus because it is sure to last the distance. Starting a business or financial investing when the Moon is in Taurus can also be extremely favorable in terms of longevity and profits. Making changes can be difficult at this time, so instead of fighting against this, choose to go with the flow and wait until the Moon shifts signs. Sensory perception is also heightened when the Moon is in Taurus, especially the sensation of taste. This is the perfect time to schedule a night out at an exotic restaurant or indulge in your favorite treats.

GEMINI

It is time to go with the flow and be open to change when the Moon is in Gemini. Mental stimulation and finding shortcuts or solutions to more complex issues may also be easier when the Moon is in this sign. Fun times, social events and networking opportunities are also likely to be fun and lively when the Moon is in Gemini. Information may also be revealed when the Moon is in this placement, so definitely use this energy to source facts, learn new things or schedule interviews. Writers and those who work in communication may also have their best ideas and inspirations when the Moon is in Gemini.

CANCER

It is an emotional time when the Moon is in Cancer. Emotions are more easily accessible and intuition may also feel strong on these nights. This makes it the perfect time to get in touch with yourself and your relationships with others. When the Moon is in Cancer it is the perfect time to establish a rapport with someone or develop a more intimate connection. There is also a strong desire to nurture and take care of others when the Moon is in this placement. It is also the perfect time to tend to domestic issues and matters within the home or family.

LEO

When the Moon is in Leo it is time to focus on your highest self, desires, dreams, and wishes. The ego self may also arise when the Moon is in this sign, so it is important to be conscious of any thoughts and feelings that are not aligned with your soul. It is also important to avoid over-indulging when the Moon is in Leo. This includes over-indulging on food, spending and also in your emotions. When the Moon is in Leo it is also the perfect time to conduct a presentation, schedule an audition or put on a performance or show.

VIRGO

When the Moon is in Virgo it is the perfect time to schedule health appointments, run errands and get organized. It is also the perfect time to get to work on complex tasks that require strong attention to detail. When the Moon is in Virgo it is also easy to become critical or overly judgemental towards others and yourself, so try to be mindful of this. If emotions run high when the Moon is in Virgo, it is best to try and rationalize things or to make pro’s and con’s list. The mind is strong when the Moon is in Virgo, however, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t ignore the stirrings of the heart either, as the Moon is also sensitive and touchy in this placement.

LIBRA

When the Moon enters the sign of Libra, it is the perfect time to compromise or focus on creating balanced partnerships. It is also a very good time to resolve conflicts and make amends with those you love. If you are seeking to compromise or make a deal with someone, doing so when the Moon is in Libra will ensure fairness and balance for all parties involved. Because it is easier to see other people’s points of view when the Moon is in Libra, it can be difficult to make decisions or strong commitments to things. On these nights, social gatherings are also likely to be harmonious.

SCORPIO

It is the perfect time to hone in on your psychic abilities and strengthen your connection with all things spiritual when the Moon is in Scorpio. It is also a time to go within and really reflect on the deeper, darker parts of your soul. It is common to feel like being alone or to keep secrets when the Moon is in this placement, in order to assess and reflect in your own energy. Emotions can also feel very intense or even amplified when the Moon is in Scorpio, so try not to get too overwhelmed. Sexual desires may also feel heightened on these nights.

SAGITTARIUS

Adventure and travel are strong when the Moon is in Sagittarius. Use this time to learn, explore and allow your imagination to be free. This is the perfect time to expand on ideas, grow things and create things. In fact, when the Moon is in this sign, expansion, and growth are favored in all areas. When the Moon is in Sagittarius it is also the perfect time to start studying philosophy or explore metaphysical pursuits. There is an optimism in the air when the Moon enters this sign, so definitely use this energy to your advantage.

CAPRICORN

When the Moon is in Capricorn it is the perfect time to bring structure and order to your life. The Moon in Capricorn also favors taking on new responsibilities, so it is often the perfect time to take on a new job or make strong commitments in your life. It is also a highly favorable time for moving up the corporate ladder or starting your own business. This is a very ambitious placement, so definitely don’t be afraid to dream big and go after what it is that you truly desire. Emotions may feel reserved on these nights and there may be a tendency to clear out any emotions that are weighing you down or no longer serving your highest path.

AQUARIUS

It is time to break down the rules, boundaries, and restrictions that are holding you back and release all fears. When the Moon is in Aquarius it is the perfect time to step outside of your comfort zone and go after your dreams and wishes. It is also the perfect time to launch a tech related business or a business that may be untraditional in some way. People tend to feel rebellious when the Moon is in this sign, so be mindful of this energy. There is also a strong desire to stand up for freedom and human/animal rights when the Moon is in Aquarius.

PISCES

When the Moon is in Pisces, gentleness, and calmness is needed by the soul. This is the perfect time to engage in artistic or creative activities and to turn off the chatter in your mind. The heart speaks strongly when the Moon is in Pisces, so definitely don’t ignore any intuitive inklings during this time. Emotions can feel tender and delicate on these nights, however, expansion of consciousness and spiritual ideas are also strong. Avoid feeling sorry for yourself during this time and use this energy to really tap into your passions.

The Moon ultimately governs our emotions and what we need to feel safe and comfortable in the world and using signs of the zodiac can help point us in the right direction.

Using the energy of the Moon is a great way to enhance and bring more understanding to your life. While you don’t have to coordinate every activity in your life in accordance to the Moon, sometimes it may help to understand what energies you are dealing with at different times.

Note: When the Moon is traveling between signs it is referred to as being ‘Void of Course’, during this time it is best to refrain from making big decisions or making huge life changes as the energy of the Moon is not at its fullest.

Bear ~ Birth Totem

BIRTH TOTEM BEAR

Birth dates: August 22 – September 22

Birth Totem is: Bear

Clan of: Turtle (Earth Chief)

Wind is: South

Directional Totem is: Coyote

Conscious intent is: Discernment

Motive of Higher Self is: Soul’s Perfection

Plant/Flower: Violet

Mineral: Topaz

Discerning. Careful. Practical. Precise. Kind. Critical

bear animal totemBirth Totem Bear is an individual whose outer personality is one of quiet observation.

As Birth Totem Bear moves through his/her daily life, there is a noticeable careful study of all he/she encounters and experiences. It is as though the intention is to sift and sort through all of the stimuli and input that the conscious mind encounters . . . to categorize and label each person, action, and event so that a greater understanding and assimilation can occur.

In the wild, Bear is an omnivore, yet their diet will consist primarily of vegetarian fare and larvae or grubs. To attain the morsels of squirming grub, the Bear must forage around beneath fallen logs and stones, sifting and sorting through the forest debris in order to be rewarded with the treats they so enjoy and that will provide the sustenance that will benefit their physical well-being.

Yet Birth Totem Bear will eventually realize that not everything can be understood with the physical senses alone, and the Individual Soul of another can never be neatly or completely labeled or categorized as it is dynamic and ever changing with that individual’s evolvement. Until Black Bear can come to the awareness that life is ever-changing and that to attempt to understand the process with the physical senses alone will inevitably (and invariably) lead to frustration, he/she will be stunting their own spiritual growth.

Just as Bear must rely upon her/his “higher senses” (intuition) in order to prepare for the lean months of winter and to alert him/her of impending threat, so must Birth Totem Bear learn to rely a little less upon “physical evidence” and more upon his/her inner voice and feelings. In this way, integration of Mind and Physical to that of the Emotions and Soul can take place leading to the Higher Intent of Black Bear’s incarnation . . . the Perfection of the Soul.

BEAR

Deep in slumber, dreams unending,
Wise old bear, patient, strong,
Send me dreams of transformation.
Grant me intuition along
With introspection of my life,
Inner listening, no more strife.

CAUTION, HEALING, LEADERSHIP

The power of the Bear totem
is the power of introspection.
The answers to all our questions
lie within us.
Each of us has the capacity to quiet the mind,
enter the silence and know.

Just as the bear hibernates during the winter,
people with a Bear totem will be quieter
during the winter months.  But they
must awaken in the spring and seek
whatever opportunities are around them.

When you have a Bear totem,
you are being guided to a leadership role.
You must be fearless in defending your beliefs.

The Bear also encourages you to exercise
your abilities as a natural healer.

Bears are associated with trees which are natural antennas, linking the heavens and the Earth.
Bear also has links to the seven color rays of the Universal Light
as well as Lunar ties, linking the subconscious and the unconscious mind.
It is associated with the Goddess Artemis.

Harvest Moon

BROWN BEAR – AMETHYST – VIOLET – PURPLE

August 23 to September 22

The Harvest Moon is the last moon of Shawnodese, Spirit Keeper of the South. The animal totem is the brown bear, the mineral totem is the amethyst, the plant totem is the violet, and the color associated with this position is purple. The elemental influence comes from the Turtle clan.

The Harvest Moon teaches about discrimination and fair decisions, good sense, perseverance, confidence, and the ability to analyze. The energy of this position is one of balance, rationality, and practicality. This is the place on the wheel that will help you truly understand the concepts of work and duty.

In the brown bear place on the Medicine Wheel, you need to guard against being overly critical of others, or cynical about life.

The brown bear teaches people experiencing this position about their capacity for creative curiosity; the amethyst about good judgment and justice; the Violet about their ability to penetrate to secret regions of the heart and soul.

ANIMAL: BROWN BEAR

Brown bear is the animal totem associated with the Harvest Moon. The brown bear is the same species as the black bear. In fact, some females will have one brown and one black cub in the same litter. Brown bears make their dens in holes, in caves, beneath fallen trees, in deserted buildings, or beneath waterfalls. They are generally careful and quiet creatures. Brown bears are omnivorous, eating anything they can get their paws on. Among their favorite foods are honey and berries. Their only enemies are humans and forest fires.

Bears are curious just like their cousin the raccoon. Bears are slow, deliberate, and pleasure oriented. They take the time to watch and learn from the things around them. They hurry in the fall when they must eat enough to sustain them through their long winter sleep. The bear’s hibernation is not a complete one. During the latter time of hibernation females have their cubs, so they have to be awake enough to nurse them.

Bears have a cheerful and good nature and share many abilities with humans. They can stand on two legs and walk for a short distance. They can climb trees; remove honey from bee trees; and spear fish, using their claws as spears.

Haida Bear Chief

To Native peoples, the bear was a very special animal. In many legends of the animal world, such as the one telling how the Spirit Keeper animals were designated, the bear is acknowledged as the head of the council of the animals. In that legend, the bear had long been chief of the animal council but his leadership was being challenged by buffalo, eagle, and coyote, all of whom felt they had attributes that would make them good leaders. As the debate between advocates of these different animals threatened the unity of the council of animals, Mudjekeewis, Spirit Keeper of the West, came to the council and told the four debating animals that because of the special qualities each had, each one would serve with one of the Spirit Keepers. In this way, all of their gifts would be utilized, and the animal council would stay united with the bear, who would also serve with Mudjekeewis, as the chief. Bear is Council chief because of his fairness, his strength, and his courage. In most tribes, the Bear clan was the medicine, leadership, or defense clan.

From working with the bear you can learn about deliberation, pleasure, observation, slow and steady movement, fairness, courage, strength, healing, and teaching.

MINERAL: AMETHYST

Amethyst

Amethyst is the mineral associated with the Harvest Moon. The amethyst symbolizes good judgment, justice, and courage.

It is a stone that soothes, pacifies, and teaches discrimination. Amethyst is purported to protect against black witchcraft, lightning, hailstorms, and intoxication.

It can help you achieve spiritual attunement as well as a good balance between the energies of the physical and spiritual levels.

Amethyst can help you understand the sources of your anger, and thus begin to release it. It also helps to soothe and clarify the Dream State.

Amethyst is a stone that stimulates nobility and purity within those who carry or wear it.

PLANT: VIOLET

violet blue flower

Violet is the plant associated with the Harvest Moon. Violet symbolizes quiet, warmth, and reserved sentimentality. The violet is also a powerful medicinal plant; both the leaves and the flowers are good as soothing agents, particularly for irritated mucous membranes. It is also high in vitamin C. Medicinally, Violet is good for penetrating the blood and lymphatic fluids, dissolving toxins in those areas. Violet can assist in healing cancer and toxicity in the stomach or bowels. It relieves sore throats, difficulty in breathing, and helps cure tumors of the throat, ear problems, and headaches. Violet is good for relieving toothaches and skin problems. It cools high temperatures. Violet can be used as a thickener in stews and for flavoring in hot dishes, salads, jams, and syrups. Being around violet awakens the heart to the fullness of its feelings and helps you understand the depths of your love.

COLOR: PURPLE

Purple is the color associated with the Harvest Moon. This is the purple of the shy violet whose flowers can easily be missed growing on the forest floor. It is also the color of deep amethyst crystals. This purple is the color of ceremony, ritual, spiritual insight, idealism and love of humanity. Some gradations of purple indicate someone using spiritual power for personal gain. Purple is the color of wisdom, but it can be used in either positive or negative way. Having purple around you will inspire you, bring you spiritual insights, increase your love of ceremony, and make you examine how you are using your power.

THE ENERGY OF THE HARVEST MOON

 TURNING POINT, PREPARATION, GATHERING

Harvest Moon teaches us the art of preparation through the act of gathering. This moon signals a time of abundance. Your hard work has paid off. The harvest is now full and ready for the gathering. Decide how much to enjoy, share, and store up for your future.

You may need to gather knowledge, courage, or even rest for the road ahead. Then begin preparations so you won’t be caught off-guard by the changes coming your way. It is all part of your personal evolution. Those born under the Harvest Moon are very good at looking after others but tend to deny their own needs. Prepare your own way, for if you use all your energy helping others, you will be facing a dry well. Enjoy the fruits of this bountiful time and gather up what you will need for your future.

PRAYER:

Great Spirit, thank you for the gifts I receive in my life. I take this time to gather up what I need to prepare for the changes to come.

LUNAR ECLIPSE IN AQUARIUS, 7TH AUGUST AT 15 DEGREES, 18.10 UT.

An Eclipse opens a portal, releasing waves of energy that is available to us all, giving us a rare opportunity to get in touch with and listen to the inner voice of our intuition, our inner knowing, and wisdom, our inner compass.

It is the beginning of an Eclipse cycle that is ushering us into a new and transformative life-changing phase at immense speed, taking us to our next evolutionary level.

The pressure may feel quite intense, as this Lunar Eclipse marks the grand finale of three Jupiter-Pluto tense squares that have been shaking up everything from the personal to the political since November 2016. Pushing us to step up to our personal power and inner greatness.

The focal point of this Lunar Eclipse is the rare “Finger of God” constellation. A finger of God shows a special life transforming mission.

We are presently in the midst of a karmic mission on both a collective and personal level.

A “Finger of God” constellation looks similar to a pyramid, which dynamically pushes us along the path of our fated destination.

At the top of the pyramid is the Sun in Leo conjoined to Mars the warrior. At the base, are Pluto to one side and Neptune to the other, whose energies are seeking release through the Sun and Mars, causing huge tension, similar to a pressure cooker or a volcano about to erupt. The energy and power need to be released by taking action (Mars) so that we can materialize our wants and desires (Sun). Pluto and Neptune need us to achieve this by following our passion (Pluto) with faith and vision (Neptune).

We can achieve anything we want with this constellation, the Sun and Mars in Leo, promises us everything from fame, success to self-realization and expression of who we really are. Making the very most of our talents and passion through our inner fire, symbolized by the fire sign of Leo.

This Lunar Eclipse is a wonderful time for romance, fun, and play. Any social activities, as well as love, will be ramped up by the fire energy of the Sun and Mars in Leo. Important synchronicities, people, opportunities and new loves can enter our life now and between the Solar Eclipse in Leo on the 21st August.

Each Eclipse brings a new lesson with it to learn and to master; it’s a chance to move up to the next level of our development.

In the sign of Aquarius, this Lunar Eclipse is about how you live out your true free spirit, reigniting that part of you that feels wild and free. The Sun and Mars in Leo and the upcoming Solar Eclipse in Leo, wants us to rediscover our inner joy, to be creative, have fun, laugh and to spread our shining light to others while embracing our inner sense of freedom.

This Lunar Eclipse gives us an opportunity to leave behind any emotional heaviness behind us, it’s time to enjoy life to the full!

“The free soul is rare, but you know it when you see it – basically because you feel good, very good, when you are near or with them.”― Charles Bukowski

We can feel a sense of restlessness and the urge for adventure, (re)awakening our sense of wonder. It’s about dreaming and imagining, but also having the courage to chase our dreams, as Mars and the Sun in the courageous sign of Leo spurns us on.

“I’m restless. Things are calling me away. My hair is being pulled by the stars again.” ~ Anaïs Nin

The Moon and the Sun make a wonderful aspect to Jupiter the planet of good luck, expansion, and joy. Signaling that our hopes and needs are just within our reach.

During a Lunar eclipse, the Earth casts a shadow on the Moon. As the Earth’s shadow blocks the light to the Moon, something similar takes place best likened to a restart to our computer. A reboot, a reprogramming takes place.

Lunar Eclipses, in particular, are times of high emotion, and they bring awareness. The Sun and the Moon, our animus, and our emotions are on opposite sides of the sky as if the other were a mirror. In the sign of Aquarius, we have enough detachment and objectivity to recognize any imbalance between our Ego`s wants and desires (Sun) and our inner most emotional needs (Moon).

A pivotal change and major shift in awareness can take place now and in the coming weeks towards your relationships and love.

Something buried and hidden in your subconscious, especially on an emotional level, as the Full Moon rules our emotions, can suddenly come to light. Something that has been blocking us, perhaps even since many years, that stops us being true to ourselves and finding happiness. The Moon in astrology represents our emotions, who we really are, on a deep down soul level, as well as our inner child.

More often than not, our ego represented by our Sun sign and our wants tends to ignore and subdue the voice of the Moon that represents our needs and our inner child. Which inevitably sooner or later, can result in becoming emotionally out of balance. We may have got what we want, the new job, the promotion, etc. (Sun) but what about our emotional needs? (Moon) Do we feel emotionally secure and fulfilled?

Many ignore their inner child and voice for many years, resulting, at some point, sooner or later, in depression or anxiety attacks. That is the alarm bell ringing, loud and clear, to get back into balance and in touch with your true emotional needs.

We can free ourselves from emotional baggage and dysfunctional emotional patterns at this Lunar Eclipse so that we will be able to take optimal advantage of the up coming immensely powerful and positive Solar Eclipse in Leo on the 21st August, that will help us to achieve our wants, desires as well as our needs.

The sign of Aquarius is known for their revolutionary qualities and we have a chance to revolutionize the way we think, live and love.

There may well be an opportunity for singles to meet new, exciting and passionate new loves, as Venus in cancer is coming up to an opposition to Pluto and square Jupiter between now and the next Solar Eclipse.

All Eclipse is close to the North Nodes of fate, making the Eclipse time highly fated. It’s destiny, putting you back onto the right path and if necessary making a course correction. Fated people and events can happen between now and the end of August, potentially taking you on a completely new and exciting path.

The Lunar Eclipse conjoined to the South Node of fate, is a balancing out of karma, bringing our past actions to fruition for good and the bad, personally and collectively.
We need to learn from our past mistakes, release the past and embrace our future and true life path (North Node) with greater self-confidence, belief in ourselves and optimism.

The ruler of the lunar Eclipse, Uranus, has just stationed retrograde, putting emphasis on our need to be true to our own unique self. There could be a need for greater freedom, even a need to break away from whatever we feel is limiting in our lives from within and without. It’s a great time to break away from self-destructive habits in all forms.

We’re feeling the freedom loving and rebellious energies of Uranus particularly strongly now.

Uranus wants us to celebrate our own uniqueness, our individuality. To live out our own special kind of crazy. We need to live out our individuality and do it our way, without worrying what others may think.

“You’re only given a little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it.”- Robin Williams

The North Node of fate in Leo is making a positive trine to Uranus. We feel the evolutionary urge to embrace change. We can feel inspired and creative and have a heightened sense of our own special uniqueness.

We can gain a real sense now, of where and how our future path to happiness lies.

The Sun in Leo and Moon in Aquarius wants to celebrate that there is only one special version of you. To be proud of who you are.

LOVE YOUR INNER FREAK!

Uranus retrograde from the 3rd August to 2 January 2018

Uranus stations retrograde on the 3rd August and are therefore super potent right now. We’re feeling the freedom loving and rebellious energies of Uranus particularly strongly now.

Uranus wants us to celebrate our own uniqueness, our individuality. To live out our own special kind of crazy.

Just how much do you love your inner freak?

With the Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius just around the corner on the 7th August, we need to live out our individuality and do it our way, without worrying what others may think.

Over the next 5 months, until Uranus goes direct again, we will become acutely aware of being true to ourselves and how much we are living out our own special uniqueness as Uranus’s energies become internalized.

Don’t change who you are
Embrace your inner ‘freak’

There’s no harm in it
To stand out from the crowd
And be different from the rest
Instead just be proud

Proud of who you are
And proud of who you’ll be
It’s easier that way
Just look at me

Now stand up tall
And be one of a kind
Set your own trends
And leave the sheep behind

Don’t let anyone put you down
You’re worth more than that
Being different is brilliant
From wherever you’re sat

So love yourself fully
Stay strong and true
Always be yourself
Always be you…

UNLEASH YOUR INNER GREATNESS!

JUPITER IN LIBRA SQUARE PLUTO IN CAPRICORN AT 17 DEGREES, 4TH AUGUST.

This is the last of three Pluto-Jupiter squares that took place in Nov 2016 and March 2017. We will continue to feel the effects of this transit until September. The next exact square will be on May 2023. The Pluto-Jupiter square gives us enormous energy and a huge drive to succeed as well as charisma.

We can attract now, what we seek.

At the same time, the square can cause a lot of tension and frustration that has been building up, somewhat like a pressure cooker, especially as we are now within the Eclipse window. We need to consciously channel this powerful energy into action and towards pushing through and reaching for our goals.

Don’t despair or give up, as we are just before a major breakthrough.

Everything is larger than life right now and so are your possibilities, providing we adhere to the principles of Uranus that have just stationed retrograde and stay true to ourselves and to our own special uniqueness, ideas and inspiration, that will help us to envision and forge the path ahead.

This is the secret to unlocking the power and success that lies within this Pluto-Jupiter transit.

We have the chance, especially now, to unlock this potential, as two powerful and positive Eclipses are taking place on the 7th and 21st August that can be a catalyst to set us off onto a new, exciting and life changing path.

Avoid dramas and ego battles at all costs, as Jupiter can make some peoples ego’s and sense of power, over blown, with some wanting to push through their dogmatic views and philosophies with force. However, for those that do, they will find they will come up against a wall of huge resistance, as Jupiter in Libra fights for fairness and justice.

When we choose to use our personal power with integrity, the Universe will conspire to make it happen. However, the opposite is true if we are only interested in power for power’s sake.

We need to be careful not to overstep the mark, by taking too much of a risk. There can be a tendency for over exaggeration. The key is to get the balance right between dreaming big and having just the right amount of realism to build your ideas and plans upon  a solid foundation for lasting success, which is indeed at our disposal supported by the grand fire trine until October between Saturn in Sagittarius, Uranus in Aries and the North Node in Leo.

Squares can often present us with challenges coming from outside forces, that often seem to be beyond our control, but once solved and mastered, can lead us to great success.

Some of the most successful people in the world have major squares in their natal horoscope that they have over overcome and mastered.

Indeed Pluto- Jupiter can bestow great wealth, power, and fortune.

We can now become aware of just how great our personal power is and where it lies.We have an opportunity now to correct any imbalance of our personal power, especially if we have been giving it away.

Now’s the time to celebrate your greatness, rise up and reclaim your power.

Many on a subconscious level are afraid of unleashing and even denying the existence of their personal power, often afraid of not fitting in, being accepted and loved.

On a collective level, this is a power to the people aspect and on a personal level, we may well become aware now, of just how often we have been giving our power away and how much this has held us back in the past. Now’s the time to time to celebrate your greatness, rise up and reclaim your power.

We can break through our inner resistance and unleash our inner greatness!

“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.”-Alice Walker

Full Moon ~ Lunar Eclipse August 7~8, 2017

FULL MOON WITH A PARTIAL LUNAR ECLIPSE IS MONDAY, AUGUST 7 AT 12:10 PM MOUNTAIN DAYLIGHT TIME (MDT).

This is the first of the 2 eclipses bookending a time of intensity and a major opportunity for growth. The Full Moon is a perfect time to set your intentions based on what you have been able to evaluate and re-evaluate your life, where you have been and where you wish to go.

Make sure to give this more than lip service or a fleeting acknowledgment. The time you put in right now will have lasting results so don’t waste the opportunity. Also honor this Full Moon as a gateway or a portal, like opening the door to this great potential of a powerful RESET for the areas that need it in your life. This portal stays open until the full solar eclipse on August 21. The time between the 2 eclipses is very powerful and could be intense and chaotic with lots of movement and action, some difficult and unwelcome, and some, a welcome breakthrough.

Best if you really work this time to your advantage and use it well. Don’t get distracted by other peoples chaotic process. Stay to your own focus, intentions, and reevaluation. The next eclipse will be a marker for a huge reset.

Astrological Notes:

Full Moon in Aquarius ~ Partial Lunar Eclipse
Sun in Leo ~ Moon in Aquarius 15º

Monday, August 7, 12:10 pm Mountain Daylight Time
(August 7, 6:10 PM Greenwich Mean Time)

Lammas or the midpoint of summer and fall is on Aquarius Full Moon this year.  A powerful Leo Sun reigns over this eclipse season.  Last New Moon was at 0º Leo and the next New Moon at the total solar eclipse is at 29º Leo.  Eclipses magnify and increase the power of the Full and New Moons. Eclipses mark endings and new beginnings. A portal like this is a call to focus your intentions, like pausing to consult the (inner) map during a long road trip.

The Aquarius Full Moon (15º) we have now is the opening act with a very partial eclipse of the Moon visible over Europe, Northern Africa, and Asia.  Here with the eclipse at the South Node is where we release the old, what has gone before and allowed the endings.  The Grand Finale will be the total solar eclipse on August 21 with Sun and Moon in Leo 29º, and the Moon perfectly blocking the light of the Sun for those precious few minutes that allow the electromagnetic link to our planet to be suspended, and in that powerful letting go, we are released, cleared and renewed, and we begin again ~ an event honored by ancients as sacred and powerful.  We choose from Leo the source of our courage and heart to create our lives renewed, to allow what is new to be born in us.

We will see the central path of the later solar eclipse totality crossing through middle America, heartland country, asking us all to turn our attention to the shadow side of our nation, to focus our heart powers of love and courage to heal division, blame, prejudice and to begin again to see our common goals and love of personal freedom that we hold in this country.

Let’s look at what the Aquarius Full Moon has to offer us.  Here is the energy for reform and innovation with truly inspired and original, inventive solutions to tangled situations.  Here too is the urge towards revolutionizing and moving forward in all areas of social change, social responsibility, and standing up for the society you want to live in.  Aquarius brings a progressive point of view valuing freedom and individuality, and they welcome the unconventional while championing all beings as equal.  Aquarians are future oriented; they’re progressive.  As the fixed air sign, they represent powerful mental energy, not the ‘strictly info’ kind of mental, but the brilliant, intuitive and inventive cosmic download kind of genius.

Aquarius owes its brilliance and eccentricity as well as its rebellious nature to its ruler Uranus – the Awakener, the Observer, The Exile.  Uranus helps us realize the future – see it, as well as simultaneously create it.  See that word REAL in realize? Well, that’s what we’re called on to do now- bring the future we want down to the Earth plane.

We can:

  • Revolutionize without resisting – directing strong emotional responses through our integrity and balanced judgment in this polarized world we find ourselves in.
  • Create in the cosmic realms, the Quantum field, the invisible worlds, the astral and let it manifest through you into the physical world (without attachment to how it gets created – leave that to Spirit….)
  • Innovate pushing the edge/boundaries of what you have done before or intuited before.
  • Cooperate banding together with the like-minded and using the power of the group and the collective to wield some real power for change.  Joy and healing live there – being with others and ending separation.

The eclipse window in Leo is pushing us across the bridge of ego, pushing breakdown, pushing crisis, pushing the shadow up to be heard, seen and witnessed.  Uranus doesn’t care about your discomfort.  It sees the long game, the future and all that can be gained by a shattering realization or crisis.  Uranus tests your will to hold to your ideals.  Both fanatics and humanitarians are two sides of the Uranian character.  When the mental fixity and stubbornness of Aquarius takes over, huge resistance, fanaticism and cold rational thinking can prevail.  We’re seeing a bit of that here in American politics-America does have an Aquarius Moon (27º) after all.  The Moon in a country’s chart represents the “people”, and they are coming together as a voice to represent the humanitarian end of the spectrum (seeking to champion the poor, elderly, immigrants, gays, universal healthcare…).  Notably, the solar eclipse on Aug. 21 is at 28º55’ Leo is just opposite the USA’s 27º Aquarius Moon.  And as it is doing so, the “people” will be making a choice and renewing their dedication to America’s democratic ideals.

On August 2-3, Uranus began a long retrograde period until Jan 3, 2018.  So, Uranus is moving extremely slowly and will spend 9 weeks at 28º Aries and is considerably stronger at this time as it changes direction.  So be aware the energy of breaking free and loving your own quirky, unconventional self is about to get a booster shot.  Acknowledge your restlessness with increasing grounded physical activity.  Expect the unexpected and turn up your adaptability.  Uranus can represent your higher cosmic self or essence.  Our inner ‘witness’ will be stronger with the Aquarius Full Moon – learn from it.

Mercury in Virgo will change direction too.  That means retrograde for three weeks from Aug 12 to Sept 5 (but not fully out of its shadow period until Sept 19th).  Mercury, our thinking and communicating focus, is turning its attention inward giving us the bandwidth to look deeply into our lives and reevaluate our harvest, our resources, our health while seeing where we have become too perfectionistic, self-denying, and worried.  Vesta traveling with Mercury reinforces going to our inner temple for guidance.

Expect Saturn to also change direction and turn direct later in the month 9/25.  So as you can see, the eclipses are in a nest of shift and change.  What a magnificent portal for your creativity!

This Full Moon chart is also notable for Mars in Leo traveling with the Sun.  We had that at last New Moon too, and it will be still active during the solar eclipse.  Mars is our assertive action-taking self, our source of passionate, instinctual energy, our masculine yang force.  So we can expect the effects of adding fuel to the fire of Sun Leo making experiences a little more raw, a little more volatile, a little like having a king (Leo) with a martial presence (Mars) at his command.

Jupiter in Libra, who has been expanding our education in the fine art of relationship and diplomacy for nigh onto a year, is playing nice with the Sun and Moon.  Jupiter will expand and support the themes of the Leo/Aquarius axis (self-expression/social responsibility) in our interactions and relationships with others.  All the better to see ourselves reflected in the eyes of another.  But an exact square to Pluto says the darker parts of our power must need to be dealt with before the ‘gifts’ of Jupiter are distributed!

The asteroid goddesses are holding down the feminine pole in this chart.  Vesta, Pallas Athena, and Juno are in the Earth signs forming a Grand Trine of groundedness and support, and Ceres-Venus are in Cancer together soothing the emotional energies of this very hot and predominantly masculine chart.

All times are in Mountain Standard Time (MST)

  • 08/12 Mercury retrograde 11º Virgo until 9/5
  • 08/21 Solar Eclipse/Leo New Moon#2 29º 12:30 PM MDT
