Ways To Use A Crystal Point

Crystal Points are one of the most versatile and beneficial healing crystals to have in your space. Adding one to your space is like adding a pillar of light that streams rainbows and raises the energy level of your environment. Each type of crystal point possesses different energies and healing properties, but one thing remains consistent, they are all POWERHOUSE crystals.

There are many, many different ways to use your crystal point. You will find yourself more connected with different “crystal rituals” than others. Trust your intuition and use your crystal in the way that feels right to you.

  1. As an air purifier for your space. Adding a crystal point–specifically an amethyst, fluorite or quartz point, purifies, clears and cleanses the energy of a room. Your crystal will absorb all the negativity and unwanted energy in your space, replacing it with positivity and light. The energy of your environment will begin to feel different; much lighter and uplifted.
  2. To send healing energy to someone. Has there ever been a time where you have wanted to send healing vibes to a specific person or perhaps a beloved pet? You can use a crystal point to do so! First, find a photograph of the person, or pet, that you want to direct healing energy towards. If they are in a hospital, or at a specific location, write the physical address of the location on the back of your photo. Place your crystal point atop your photography and visualize them being healthy. Your crystal will project your intention outwards, directing it towards their location. We recommend using Quartz for this.
  3. To attract business abundance. Heather strongly believes that all business people should have either a Citrine Point or an Amethyst Point on their office desk, as well as somewhere in their business. Citrine is the premier manifestation crystal, helping to bring wealth, success, and abundance. Amethyst is believed to bestow a strong business savviness in its owner, helping to achieve financial success. For added abundance energy, place your crystal point atop your business card on your desk. You can even magnify the wealth energy by creating a wealth crystal grid around it.
  4. As the center point of a crystal grid. Using a crystal point atop mandalas, or as the center of the crystal grids magnifies and intensifies the energy of your intention and your entire grid. Handwrite your intention on a small piece of paper and place it underneath the point in the center of your grid. Think of your crystal point directing your focused intention up into the universe, even when you are not thinking about it.
  5. For meditation and stress relief. Meditating with an amethyst point in your hands or placed in front of you will help to clear your mind of clutter, stress, and anxiety. Amethyst facilitates the releasing of attachments, helping you to let go of the things that are no longer serving you and holding you back. It is connected with the Purple Ray which is believed to nourish and support you on a cellular level to achieve optimal brain activity. When you are feeling overwhelmed with stress, try sitting with a citrine point. Citrine is said to thin out and lessen the density of your energy field and aura, releasing that feeling of weight on your shoulders.
  6. For protection. Amethyst is said to reflect light and energy at a higher rate than even Quartz Crystal. This is what makes it such a strong protective crystal, as it repels more than it attracts in terms of negativity. Place an amethyst point in your car for protection, or in any space you feel needs extra protection.
  7. For setting focused intentions. Crystal points are the most powerful tool to use for setting intentions and manifesting them into the universe. In your sacred space, set up a space for your crystal points and written intentions. Find a crystal point that meshes well with your intention; when in doubt choose a Quartz Point–it will work for your intentions regardless of the subject matter. Hold your crystal point in your hands and visualize your intention, programming your crystal. Write your intention or goals on a small piece of paper, fold it towards yourself and place your crystal point on top of it. Keep it in a place that is sacred to you, and revisit it each day when you are setting your intentions for the day. Your point will continue to project your focused intention into the universe throughout the day, even when you aren’t thinking about it.

They are tools for empowerment, for blessings, for prosperity, for love, for healing, for creating a sacred space, and much more. They can be used for any intention, from the simple goal of “bring more money” to the more serious, “banish this curse” to the great goal of “heal the planet”. Whatever your intention, the crystal grid is an effective use of crystal energy when done with your clean intention.

A grid is formed by making a geometric pattern with crystals, which can be tumbled stones or natural rough stones. The pattern can be any design you like – a Star of David which is the most popular, a Reiki symbol, a pentagram or another symbol of your choosing.

A basic grid consists of 4, 5, 6, or 7 stones – 1 in the center and the rest making the design. To charge and empower your grid you can use a selenite, rose or crystal quartz wand or you can energize your grid with Reiki, Dowsing, or whatever feels right and works best for you. Some use Vedic mantra’s and Buddhist chants to charge the grids. Reiki practitioners use crystal gridding very frequently and their methodology is normally to charge with a wand and by drawing the Reiki symbols on it and then energizing it between their hands. This is generally done for each of the grid stones in turn.

  • Your mind must be very clear on what it is you want.
  • Choose one goal at a time and focus.
  • Write it down on a small slip of paper.
  • You will use this clear intention to charge the crystals and activate the Grid.
  • Decide on your layout pattern and stones.
  • Decide on a place to set up the Grid where it can be left undisturbed. Always be grateful to any animals or children which care to enter as they bring their own totem energy to your Grid. However, try not to place the Grid where it will be inconvenient or annoying to others. Know where the four directions are for your stone placement; West, North, East, South. Sweep the space clean with a broom, incense, bells/drums, a wand, a sprinkle of pure salt, a prayer, etc. Dispel and banish energies which wish you “ill or nil” and invite in those who wish you “help and harmony”.
  • Create your grid on a tray or board so it can be moved if needed.
  • Use a shallow pan filled with clean sand or even uncooked rice grains.
  • Devise it on paper first, then place the stones on the paper.
  • Hold your Center Master Crystal in your hands and let your Intention flow into it. Place it on the Grid. Put your written Intention under it. This is now “charged”.

It is best to start at the 1 o’clock position stone and start weaving the wand in and out to the center stone, back to 3 o’clock and so on around the grid. As you draw the pattern make the necessary affirmation or chant a mantra.

  • Breathe and relax; incense or Aromatherapy is a good addition, as is music, but not necessary.
  • Visualize the Master Crystal glowing with your energy and the ally stones pulsing slowly, first one then the next. You may wish to use your Wand again for this part. See the “charge” flow faster and faster until the whole grid is activated and “humming”.
  • Imagine your goal being met and accomplished
  • Be grateful; say a prayer of gratitude and slowly back away, leaving the grid to continue its purposeful work.

The best and most effective energy grid is worked when you follow your heart and your own intuition. Be sure your goals are benign. When you are finished using the grid, you can return the stones to the earth or any natural water source, or keep them for another use later. Some grid stones are to be passed on to others. Be sure to cleanse the stones before using them again.

Remember always to cleanse the stones regularly by passing them through some incense such as sage for example as you are creating the grid. Or you can leave them for a couple of hours in a glass bowl of spring water to which you have added a couple of drops of a flower essence such as Lavender. Allow the crystals to dry naturally in diluted sunlight before using them for the grid placement.

There are several methods for gridding. You can use grids in places and spaces and you can also use grids on your body or place the crystals around your bed before going to sleep. There are so many applications and I will expand upon the placing of stones on the body and healing grids in another article. For now here is one example of a body placement grid:

Take seven cleansed and blessed Crystals or Stones – one for each chakra, lie down and place one on each of the 7 major chakras. For example Base – Hematite or Bloodstone, Sacral – Carnelian or Tiger’s Eye, Solar Plexus – Citrine, Heart – Aventurine and/or Rose Quartz, Throat – Turquoise or Blue Howlite, Third Eye – Amethyst, Crown – Quartz crystal.

Rest quietly with the stones in place for no more than 15 minutes. When you remove the crystals place them in your sacred space making your favorite pattern. The grid will continue to work for you.

Grids can be further empowered by placing a sunburst of quartz points or lasers around the center design. Create a favorite grid and you can keep it in any room of the house, treatment room if you are a healer, place of work, etc., in all cases, it will generate healing energy. Having it in your reception area and/or treatments rooms for guests and clients does make a difference.

Now that you have the grid, you’re probably wondering how exactly you use it. Focus on the center stone. It’s the core of the grid. Try to connect with it, communicate with it, ask it to help you manifest your intention.

Some people recommend the practice of “programming” crystals first, but in a grid, you may want to allow and see the stones as alive and intelligent and far older than any of us. Therefore, they generally will provide the energy required. However, if you feel more comfortable programming the crystals then you should. I for one, prefer to program them first as it reinforces the reason and intention for creating the grid in the first place. Just try and remember that the stones are conscious allies.

If you’re using the grid for distance healing, it can often be helpful to have set it up so that the center stone is resting on a picture of the person to be healed or another physical link to the recipient.

Once you feel that you have aligned the grid with your intention, focus on the center stone again and slowly feed it as much energy as you can create or pull in from external sources. Visualize it and the other stones of the grid and the lines connecting them glowing brighter and brighter as energy is added. When you feel that you’ve added enough, stop and just hold the glowing grid in your mind’s eye for a few more moments.

You may want to take this time to state any affirmations you may have for the working, or even simply “so mote it be”, though such affirmations are not necessary. Then just leave the grid in place, and as long as it is not significantly disturbed it will keep running, though it can be a good idea to occasionally add fresh energy as guided by intuition for a grid that is set up for an extended period of time. A significant disturbance will require that the grid is reactivated, but is otherwise not a cause for alarm.

Once you’ve worked with your own version of a standard grid for a while, you’re probably going to want to move on to more advanced grids. You have an almost endless set of options that can be used.

  • You can change the types of crystals you’re working with.
  • You can use stones that are not crystals.
  • You can even use objects that are not stones at all.
  • You can use everything from ritual weapons to candles to animal bones to charged chunks of driveway gravel.
  • Use your imagination and see what works for you.

Anything that can take an energetic charge can be used. Nor are you limited to the basic patterns shown in this article. There are many other popular grid patterns based on sacred geometry. Any of these will work. It is also quite possible to create grids using no set geometry, and just feeling intuitively for patterns that will work and balance the energy in the right way. You can even set up multiple grids and link them together. This can create an effect that can only be described as resonance that strengthens the fields of both grids dramatically. Finally, you can link your grid to external energy sources such as the sun by visualizing a line of energy linking these energy sources into the grid much like the lines linking the stones. This will allow them to remain active longer, and the link will dissolve on its own if the grid is dismantled.

This is your sacred space and your sacred grid created by you, a sacred being. Enjoy this process, experiment with different layouts, and find what works best for you. Above all, have fun as you learn to create your own personalized grids.

Clearing Crystals Using The New Moon

New Moon’s are a great time to either-

  1. Clear and release built up energy in a crystal
  2. Charge the crystal up with positive vibes and manifestations

The New Moon is a time of releasing and new beginnings, making it the perfect time to clear your crystals of any old and stagnant energy.

Crystals absorb the energy that is around them, which is why it is always important to clear your crystal when you first receive it and after heavy use. This is especially true if you have been working with a crystal and have seen the manifestation occur in your physical life.

In fact, even if your crystal has just been sitting on your altar or shelf, it still has the potential to hold stagnant energy, so it must be cleansed every so often in order for it to do its best work.

Crystals that are not cleansed can be prone to breaking and can also be difficult to work with.

In order to cleanse your crystal on the night of the New Moon, all you need to do is leave it out near a window during the time of the New Moon. This allows the crystal to be cleansed by the energy of the New Moon.

You will have to look up the time of the New Moon in your area in order to know when it will peak, however you could always leave it out the day before as well.

For a New Moon cleansing, you can leave the crystal out up to 4 days after the New Moon has peaked, however, 1-2 days is probably fine.

You may also want to rest your crystal on a piece of selenite or quartz in order for the cleansing to be more potent. These stones are great for clearing and can help your crystal to release all the built up energy.

Other techniques include smudging your crystal or running the crystal under water, however, some crystals are sensitive to water and could be damaged.

Charging a Crystal on the New Moon

When you charge a crystal on the night of a New Moon, it helps it to lock in the vibration of the New Moon so you can work with the energy throughout the coming weeks or months.

New Moon’s are a time of new beginnings and fresh starts. They help us to release and purge built up energy, events, and situations in order for us to release and let them go.

When you charge a crystal on the New Moon, it allows you to use the crystal to do releasing work and start fresh with things in your life.

If you know that you have a new cycle starting in your life, charging up your crystal on a New Moon can also help you to cope with the new changes.

Of course, the specific crystal you choose to charge will slightly change the vibration, however, there is no limit to what you can choose.

To charge your crystal it has to be cleansed first. You can cleanse your crystal through smudging or resting it on a piece of selenite or quartz. You can also cleanse your crystal on the night of the New Moon, and then charge it up during the next few days.

New Moon’s are felt strongest four days after they peak, so try to charge and cleanse your crystal during this time frame.

Once you have cleansed your crystal, charge it up by holding it in your hands and setting your intention into the crystal. You want to put the “feeling” of your intention into your crystal in order for it to be most effective.

For the next few days, keep the crystal close to you and sleep with it beside your bed, this will help the crystal to be extra charged.

The crystal can then be used for the coming weeks to help you move through any of life’s ups and downs.

Our Fascination with Crystals, Rocks and Stones

From the tiny grains of sand beneath your feet on a stretch of beach, to the giant Selenites that grow in Cueva de los Cristales (Cave of Crystals) near Chihuahua, Mexico; from the pebble you pick up in a creek bed while taking a walk, to the giant Preseli Bluestones that are part of Stonehenge in England, we as humans have always been fascinated by crystals, stones, rocks and minerals. It’s no wonder, since the majority of crystals, rocks and stones come from the very bedrock that makes up this planet we call home. So, in essence, we’ve been walking all over them for eons.

Mankind has been mesmerized by crystals for millennia. Their myriad colors, shapes, sizes and physical (as well as metaphysical) properties have caught our eye since the first peoples created petroglyphs on the walls of their caves. Who wouldn’t be drawn to the red sandstone canyons of Utah?

The earliest recorded data concerning crystals and their uses dates back to over 4000 BC, in which the ancient Sumerians used crystals and stones because of their belief that the stones contained magical powers. The ancient Egyptians used crystals such as Lapis Lazuli,Obsidian, Carnelian, Malachiteand Turquoise. Even then, these ancient peoples believed that Lapis had a connection to opening up spiritual “sight” so that they would be able to see the way to the afterlife. Today, many use it in much the same way, to open the Third Eye chakra to enhance psychic communication and a “second sight”.

Crystals have been a part of human civilization for millennia. The use of Jade has been found from ancient China and India over 5,000 years ago, to the Aztecs and Mayans. Crystals are mentioned over 200 times in the Bible and 12 were used to make up the breastplate of the High Priest.  Ancient Greeks named Quartz “crystal” from the Greek words for “ice” and “drop” because it looked like ice and was extremely hard.  Theophrastus (c. 371 – c. 287 BC) wrote a treatise called “On Stones” which classified crystals and rocks based on their behavior when heated, grouping them by common properties. It was followed by Pliny the Elder (23-79 AD) penning his “Natural History” in which he wrote a vast amount regarding the properties of minerals and stones.

Along with the physical attributes that crystals and minerals possess came the legends, myths and magical lore regarding these treasures of the earth. They were (and are still) used in healing rituals; in burial services; in agriculture; in communicating with angels and higher spirits; for calling animal totems; for finding love and keeping it; for grounding and protection from negativity; for patience and study, and so much more. We use crystals in our technology and our homes. We wear crystals as symbols of love and friendship, passed down through generations. We are the caretakers of these remarkable treasures that our planet has given us. May they help us on our journey for millennia to come.

The Basics Part lll ~ Discovering More of the World of Crystals

After you have been using crystals for healing, you are now ready to explore a little further into the world of crystals. As you have probably noticed, there are many different shapes of crystals available and you may have been wondering if this makes a difference in their energy. First, there are tumbled and shaped crystals, and then there are crystals that are raw and in their natural state. If you are looking to use a crystal’s energy for any type of healing, either will work fine. You may find the tumbled stones easier to carry in a pocket or lay on a person, but a natural crystal can do the same. Natural or raw crystals are sometimes more fragile than there tumbled counterparts. Some of the different shapes can direct the energy of the crystals or modify it slightly. Heart-shaped crystals combine a loving energy with their other characteristics. In crystals with points, either natural or polished, the energy is directed out from the point. These are great for directing energy to a specific part of the body for healing and can “point” the flow of energy towards or away from an area. This also applies to crystal wands, where the wider end is used for drawing energy out and the narrow end it used for putting energy into a specific spot for healing. Similarly, a pyramid directs the energy of the crystal up through the apex. The energy from a crystal sphere emanates evenly in all directions. Crystals are also commonly available as Sacred Geometry shapes. These shapes represent the building blocks of everything in the Universe and they also represent the elements: Fire, Earth, Air, Water and Ether/Spirit. Sacred Geometry shapes are excellent for meditation and working with the elements.

Now that you have been enjoying all the benefits of crystals personally, you are probably wondering about sharing them with other living things around you. Pets and other animals can benefit greatly from using crystal energy too. Amethyst water can help with fleas and parasites, Aquamarine in the fish tank can help your aquatic friends to stay healthy, Green Aventurine can calm nervous energy, Moss Agate can help with aggressiveness, and Pyrite can help reptiles with skin problems. Some crystals, like Leopardskin Jasper and Dalmatian Jasper, look like the fur coats of the animals they are excellent at healing, dogs and cats. Animals, like children, are often naturally attracted to crystals. If sharing crystals with children or pets, please be careful to avoid any choking hazards and keep them out of reach, if necessary.

When using crystals to heal children, always start with gentle crystals and avoid high energy crystals unless the child is intuitively drawn to them.  A good selection to start with is Amethyst, Rose Quartz, Clear Quartz and Green Aventurine. Try having the child select from a group of crystals and intuitively select the crystals they need for healing, as you would yourself. Children naturally have a strong intuition when they are young. Crystal bracelets and necklaces should only be used in older children and adults to avoid any choking hazards. It is also helpful to place crystals around the house, where the whole family can benefit. You can even use crystals in the garden to help your plants. Moss Agate, Green Calcite, Tree Agate and Fluorite will all help your plants to stay healthy and grow strong.

Another awesome way to use crystals is to create a crystal grid. A crystal grid is simple to make and helpful for amplifying your intentions. To create a simple grid, choose a place that it can remain undisturbed. Clear all the crystals first, and then place a large crystal, such as a sphere or tower, in the center of the grid. You can also add a picture or other object that corresponds with your purpose. Then place several other crystals around the center crystal, directing any points outward. Trace the grid from the center crystal to each other crystal using a wand or your finger, while holding your intention to energize the grid. Periodically, you will need to retrace the grid to recharge it. Follow your intuition when deciding on the crystals and shape of your grid and let your creativity flow. Crystal grids are also beautiful to look at.

Caution Using Crystals/Stones/Minerals

This page contains geological data that cautions one when using certain types of crystals/minerals. While most in the metaphysical/spiritual community only speak of the higher purpose properties, common sense must be taken into consideration when using these on a physical level. This page is a cautionary measure on stones that may be harmful in certain situations or specific types of minerals (raw versus tumbled, Fibrous versus crystallized or mass) , whether it be in Elixirs or prolonged holding, bathing, touching to skin, etc.

It is not meant to perpetuate fear or anxiety, but instead to educate and share our deep respect for the crystal and mineral kingdom. Most on the list are geared toward internal use with a few being cautionary for external use. A good rule of thumb is to make sure you wash your hands after using any crystal/mineral. It keeps our mineral friends clean and is a great way to show respect to ourselves and our crystal/mineral family.

Pay particular attention to the list when you are working with raw/natural specimens. I do not think tumbled (coated) stones, for the most part, would be harmful, with a few exceptions, such as Realgar.

NOTE: Before making any elixir or charging any water, it is a good idea to double check for any possible toxicity that may occur, if using several stones in combination, for elemental reactions between the stones. In fact, it would be best if each stone charges in its own container of water as opposed to putting four or five stones in the same container.

*If you have any doubt (or are new to crystals and their chemical composition), simply place the crystal/stone around and outside of the container. You will still get the same results.*

The Basics Part ll ~ So I Have My Crystals, Now How Do I Use Them?

You have selected your new crystals and they are cleaned, charged and ready to go. Now, what do you do with them? How can they be used for healing? There is a variety of ways to use crystals to improve and heal your life.

The easiest way to use crystals is to have them near you and just bask in their energy. Place them around your environment, workspace and home, wear them as crystal jewelry, or carry them in your pockets. Any crystals near you will have some impact on you. Some crystals work better when placed directly on the skin, which enables their minerals to be absorbed through the skin. Some crystals that work best this way are Lithium Quartz, Lepidolite and Moss Agate.  You can use any combination of crystals and as many as you want at one time, as long as you are comfortable with them. The best way to work with the crystals is to let your intuition guide you. As you continue on your crystal healing journey, you will find it helpful to pick up a couple of books to reference when you have questions. Two of my favorite books for beginners are The Crystal Bible by Judy Hall and The Illustrated Directory of Healing Crystals by Cassandra Eason. There is also lots of helpful information at HealingCrystals.com.

Another way to use crystals is in combination with the Chakras. Each person has seven major Chakras:  Base, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye and Crown. A great way to align the Chakras is by placing particular crystals over the location of each Chakra. Each Chakra is associated with a specific color and basically any crystal in those colors will resonate with that Chakra. The colors are:  Base – Red/Brown/ Black; Sacral – Orange; Solar Plexus -Yellow; Heart – Green/ Pink; Throat – Blue; Third Eye – Indigo; and Crown – Purple/Clear. While there are many crystal combinations that will work for this, a basic set could include Red Jasper, Carnelian, Citrine, Green Aventurine, Sodalite, Lapis Lazuli and Amethyst. There are also pendants, necklaces and bracelets available that incorporate seven Chakra crystals that you can wear all day long to keep balanced and centered.

Many different varieties of crystal wands are now available as crystal healing becomes more popular. Crystal wands can augment acupressure, reflexology and massage therapy, helping to make them even more effective. Two books that can help you learn about using crystal wands with reflexology are Crystal Wands:  For Healing, Massage Therapy and Reflexology by Ewald Kliegel and Gemstone Reflexology by Nora Kircher. The energy from the crystal will assist in removing blockages and energizing areas of the body that are in need. With crystal wands, the wider end is used for drawing energy out and the narrow end is used for putting energy into a specific spot for healing. The type of crystal the wand is made from will affect the healing process as well. I like to use a Sodalite wand for balancing energies and a Mahogany Obsidian wand for activating.

One of my favorite ways to use crystals for healing is to make crystal water or an elixir. When crystals are placed in or near water, the water absorbs the crystal energy and becomes a valuable tool for healing. To make gem water, place washed (gentle soap, water and a soft toothbrush) and cleared crystals inside a glass pitcher or container and fill the container with spring or distilled water and leave for two to twelve hours. I also like to place my water in the sun or moonlight to give it an extra boost.  This water will stay charged for 24 hours to one week in a tightly sealed container inside the fridge, or you can add one part of alcohol, such as vodka or brandy, to ten parts crystal water to preserve it for several months. Cider Vinegar can also be used instead of alcohol. Before using crystals with water, always consult a reference to make sure the crystal is not toxic. A great reference book for making these is Gem Water by Michael Gienger and Joachim Goebel. If you would like to make gem water or an elixir with toxic crystals (or you just want to be careful with all crystals) you can place the crystals just outside the glass container or in a small glass jar before placing them in the water, and the water will still be energized. Drink the energized water at least twice daily for best results. Start with a small dose at first and increase gradually, as some gem water can have intense healing energies.

The Basics – How to Select Your Crystals and How to Care For Them

Congratulations on beginning your crystal journey! I hope you enjoy working with crystals and experiencing how they can enhance and improve your life. Crystals have been used by people for thousands of years. There are over 200 references in the Bible about crystals and they were an integral part of biblical life, including the twelve stones on the breastplate of the High Priest Aaron. Ancient Egyptians used Carnelian, Lapis Lazuli, Peridot and other crystals in their jewelry and other adornments.  Roman soldiers even carried Tiger Eye to encourage bravery in battle.

When looking at the vast rainbow of different crystals, it can be difficult to decide which crystals you should take home. The best way to choose crystals is by allowing your intuition to guide you. Look at the photos of crystals online or peruse a crystal store and see which crystals attract your attention. Sometimes it may be that you can’t take your eyes off of one or once you touch one, you can’t put it down. Maybe you keep looking at the same type of crystals every time you browse. If you are having trouble deciding, some good starter crystals are Clear Quartz, Amethyst, Rose Quartz, and/or Green Aventurine. You will also find that the stones you are drawn to will change over time as you evolve. Get out there and have fun trying out all of the different crystals!

There is no right or wrong combination of crystals to carry as long as it works for you. Each person is at a different place in their spiritual journey and has a unique combination of crystals that they are drawn to. Enjoy experimenting and see what feels the best for you. I choose a different combination of crystals to carry every day! Please be aware that some crystals give off a lot of energy and some are very helpful at detoxing the body. When toxins are released into the body, they can have an adverse effect on us as our body is cleaning itself. Occasionally, crystals can make you feel uncomfortable, anxious, lightheaded or even nauseous. If this occurs, you should try using the crystal for only small intervals of time while you adjust to the energy, or remove it all together and try it again at a later date. You may also consider a more gentle crystal of similar energy.

Over time, crystals can become tired (having a weaker overall energy) and pick up negative energies from the environment around them. Because of this, you will need to periodically clear the energy of the crystals. There are many ways to do this including smudging (passing crystals through smoke of burning incense, like Sage, Sweetgrass or Palo Santo), burying them overnight in sea salt or brown rice, holding them under running water, and using sound (like a tuning fork or certain music).  Be careful not to use water or abrasive methods on softer, more fragile crystals, like Calcite. Most importantly, when clearing your crystals hold the intention that you are removing negativity and restoring the crystal’s energy.

Even if you clear the energy regularly, crystals will need to be recharged periodically to restore their full energetic potential. Some common ways to recharge your crystals are by burying them in a garden, placing them on top of a crystal cluster, or by placing them in the sunlight/moonlight. I find that most crystals have a way that works best for them. Carnelian, Sunstone and Citrine love to spend time in the sunlight; Rhodonite and Rose Quartz love to be among the greenery and flowers in the garden or buried in the ground. Moonlight will restore Moonstone and Amethyst. Be careful because softer or fragile crystals shouldn’t be buried and some crystals, like Amethyst, can fade in the Sun. If your crystals become physically dirty on the outside, you can clean most crystals with lukewarm water and a mild soap, using a soft toothbrush for any crevices. Again, be careful with fragile and soft crystals to avoid damage! If a crystal becomes exhausted or has completed its task, sometimes they will break or can even disappear for a while, so it’s important to give your crystals a rest occasionally. Once your crystals are recharged and happy, you can enjoy their company again.

Clearing Unwanted Energies from a Place

Unfortunately, in this world where positive energy exists, there is also a high probability of encountering negative energy.  Many people sense this negative energy but do not realize it at the time. It may come across as a “gut feeling”, pain, or sense of unease. For some, it manifests itself as a headache, nausea, pressure on the body, chills, a humming sound, a dark mist, or even a sense of doom. For others, emotions may shift quickly and, where a person was happy, a feeling of anger and sadness is now present.

If you suspect you may be encountering negative energy you may wonder what actions you can take to get rid of it. The first step is always to rule out any physical pollutants causing this reaction.  Many chemicals and ingredients in our modern society can cause the same reactions. If physical, environmental pollutants are ruled out, then the presence of negative energy can be considered as a strong possibility.

The next step in working to remove unwanted energy is to physically remove objects that are contributing to energy blockages.  Negative vibes like to collect where energy is stagnant.  Energy can become stagnant if there is too much clutter, no sunlight, no air circulation, or little room to move around.  Corners are prime areas that collect unwanted vibes. Get rid of anything that you no longer use or don’t have a particularly fond association with.  Even if it something “valuable,” if you don’t like it, the energy connected with that piece is not favorable. Donate it, give it to someone who would appreciate it, or sell it. The goal is to have only things that you love or have a positive association with surrounding you.

Once you have removed broken, unwanted, or unneeded pieces, it is time to physically clean. The most important aspect of cleaning is having the intention to remove the unwanted energies.  Intention is the key to making this cleansing work.  First, open any windows.  Depending on the season you are doing this, you may not wish to open the windows fully; even opening them a crack will help.  If curtains are blocking light, move them out of the way and possibly wash them, at very least vacuum them. Clean your windows with a natural product that may have an essential oil product to add more positive vibes to your space.  If you have a bucket with water, add a few drops of an essential oil like Clary Sage or Peppermint to help with energetic cleansing.  As you dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, and wipe away the physical grime, imagine removing the unwanted energies also. Personally, I like to go North to South, East to West so the elements can aide me.

After cleaning the space you may wish to use music, tingshas, chimes, tuning forks, or singing bowls to disperse more energy.  I like to go corner to corner with any of the tools above and ding (with tingshas, chimes, tuning forks, etc…) each area. If you don’t have any of the above, you can play drumming music or music from singing bowls in the space.

Another great tool for energetic cleansing is smoke that is produced from Sage, Palo Santo sticks and incense. You can place any of them in a fireproof /heatproof container and walk around the room, letting the smoke waft into each corner. Visualize it going through the walls and floor and dissolving anything that is polluting your space.

To seal in the good vibes, I like to use water that has a pinch of sea salt in it (can use regular table salt too). I spray this mixture in the air and imagine white light or droplets permeating the space. If you work with a particular deity, you can ask their assistance in cleaning and protecting the room as you spray. Use caution when spraying near electronics, woods, upholstery, curtains, or any other object that may be damaged by water.

Once you are finished, it is time to protect the space.  Selenite rods in the corners of the room work well to grid the room. You can take the Selenite rods and infuse them with the intention to protect your space from unwanted energies.  As you place them in the corners, imagine lines coming forth from them and connecting with each other to form a protective barrier. Placing Smokey Quartz or Obsidian on each window sill will also aid in adding more protection. If you are familiar with Runes, you can draw the Algiz symbol with your hand or a crystal about 5 – 6 inches from the window.  If you practice Reiki, you can use the CKR symbol in the same fashion.  As you draw, imagine either of these symbols becoming three- dimensional and infusing itself onto the surface it was drawn upon.  Proceed to do the same thing to any doors.

The final touch is placing an Amethyst Druze or protective grid in the room. Placing either one high on a book case, mantle, or shelf allows it to emit a spiritually protective light into the space more easily.  It can be infused with the intention to protect or you can let it vibrate without an intention. If you don’t have an Amethyst, you can use a large Smokey Quartz, Black Tourmaline, Jet, Black Onyx, or Black Obsidian for protection.

If you don’t have the crystals mentioned above, use pictures of them until you can get some. Let your intention permeate through the image and use them like you would the actual stone.

What will make the biggest difference throughout this process is intention. You can clean the whole day but without the intention, the work you did will not carry the same weight as someone who only did half the work, but had the intention to remove the negative vibrations.
